The UK Student Route visa has undergone significant updates in 2025. Here are the most important changes affecting Indian students applying for UK universities.
Dependent Rules: From January 2024, most international students can no longer bring dependants unless they are enrolled in a government-sponsored PhD program. This is a critical consideration if you plan to study with your family.
UKVI IELTS: All Student Route applicants must now present IELTS for UKVI scores (not standard IELTS) taken at an approved SELT center. The minimum requirement remains 5.5 overall with no band below 4.5 for most institutions.
Graduate Visa: The Graduate Route (post-study work visa) is still available — 2 years for UG/PG graduates, 3 years for PhD holders — but is currently under Home Office review. Apply before any potential changes.
