Many Indian workers qualify for LMIA-exempt Canadian work permits under the International Mobility Program (IMP). Here are the key categories.
Intra-Company Transfers (ICT): If you are a senior manager, executive, or specialized knowledge worker at a multinational company with a Canadian branch, you can transfer without LMIA.
CUSMA/USMCA: Applicable mainly for US and Mexico nationals — not typically for Indians.
Significant Benefit (C10): For workers whose presence in Canada provides a significant economic, social, or cultural benefit. This is discretionary and requires strong justification.
IEC (International Experience Canada): For young adults from participating countries — India is not currently included.
Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP): If you complete a qualifying program at a Canadian DLI, you may be eligible for a PGWP of up to 3 years — no LMIA required. This is the most common pathway for Indian graduates.
